Feb 2 2021

The BFI Future Film Festival is taking place 18th – 21st February 2021.

4 days of virtual workshops, masterclasses, talks and screenings, focused on helping filmmakers aged 16 to 25 break into the screen industry, completely free and online this year.

LUX Artists have collaborated with the festival to present; DEMYSTIFYING THE ROLE OF THE ART DEPARTMENT IN A FILM CREW, a talk aimed at informing and inspiring the next generation of production designers and those interested in the art department.

In this session, the Art Department team behind SAINT MAUD, the chilling and boldly original psychological-horror debut film from writer-director Rose Glass, will talk about how they worked together to design and create a bleak and unnerving world of faith, madness and obsession. They will reveal how they scouted locations, constructed sets and props and collaborated with other departments to turn Glass’ vision into a realistic world for the big screen.

The discussion will also cover career practicalities such as the differences between various roles and responsibilities within the Art Department, the education, skills and experience required for each role, how to create stand-out portfolios and where to look for entry level roles.

Panelists: Paulina Rzeszowska (Production Designer), Isobel Dunhill (Art Director), Anna Mould (Set Decorator), Alannah Byrne (Stand by Art Director)

Host: Oliver Kassman (Producer)

This will take place on Sunday 21st of February at 4pm – 5:15pm. For full details of how to attend, please refer to the BFI Future Film Festival website.
